One of Obama’s strongest points that grabs the attention of voters is a change for the tax system. The new presented system is the Buffet Rule, which requires millionaires and billionaires to do their fair share. However, if you are the vast majority of America(98%) who makes under 250,000 dollars annually, your taxes will remain the same. This plan sounds coherent, based on the fact that many people conceive the rich becoming richer, and the poor being poorer. As true as that is, the Buffet Rule actually hurts the chance of the poor being successful. Rich companies and corporations are the people who supply the most jobs of our economy. So by putting a higher tax on the affluent, they are also forced to propose less jobs. As a result, more citizens will be unemployed. Where would the extra money go? Not in the hands of “the people”, considering Obama already plots to bilk them out of jobs. In the grand scheme of things, while many people in destitute give Obama their vote, he will return the favor by decreasing the amount of work available.
Another statement of Obama is his sworn obligation to push for immigration reform, which was a crucial part of his campaign in winning the 2008 election, targeting Hispanics. In early 2009, he offered a DREAM(Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) Act initiative, to target young people in the U.S. who are here illegally. It offered them “conditional permanent residency” if they came here before they were 16, attended college, or served in the military. Obama said,” We should not punish innocent young children for the actions of their parents by denying them the chance to stay here.” When this matter was taken to Congress, a great deal of unfairness and deception occurred. Through a mediated collusion on both sides, immigrants were robbed of their rights. With ridiculous arguments made by the Republicans, they somehow ludicrously prevented 60/100 votes from the senate that was necessary to pass the bill. So what did Obama do to respond to this injustice? Instead of persisting to create new bills and opportunities, he set a record of 1.2 million deportations of illegal immigrants. Not only did he break his vow, but did the exact opposite of what he was elected to do.
As we all recognize, jobs has been a problem as we are headed toward the direction of another depression. Obama has repeatedly accentuated the work he has done to raise jobs. When he acquired office in 2008, he made an affirmation to not only halt the decrease of work, but raise more jobs on top of that. Through his presidency, he has raised 300,000 educator jobs, more than 4,600 law enforcement jobs, 224,500 jobs through investment in the clean energy sector, and 4.4 million jobs in the private sector(private companies that offer jobs). Despite his “efforts”, has he lived up to his pledge? The Bureau of Labor Statistics contradicts. Through the years from when Obama took office the unemployment rate increased from 7.2% to an astounding 8.2%.Through 2009-2012, 8 million jobless Americans has inflated to 12.5 million. Obama has raised a plethora of jobs, but it is still evident that he did not keep his promise of putting America back on track.
Lastly, Obama declared that if he was president, he will ban semi-auto weapons. He plans to change the second amendment, which has remained consistent ever since the amendments were written. Obama proclaimed,” Ak-47’s should belong in the hands of soldiers!” One of its main intents is to decrease the availability of guns to criminals, and prevent situations like the Colorado shooting. He ceased to mention how his plan also makes hunting rifles, pistols, and shotguns illegal. Most of these guns have little potential for shootings and are commonly purchased for self-defense purposes, or to hunt, which has been an American heritage for centuries. It is adversative that criminals can even obtain a gun legally because of the mandatory license and background checks. Most of the guns distributed among gangs were smuggled illegally outside of the U.S. Criminals will still discover ways to obtain guns. What will happen to us when they get their hand on weapons? Are we willing to take this risk of being defenseless, and also end a classic American heritage? Repeated tolls taken of Americans on our right to own guns speak otherwise.
As president, Obama has clearly not met his expectations in jobs and immigration, two of the largest problems in America. Some of his new ambitions aren’t meritorious either. I’m not implying that Mitt Romney is even one ounce better, or to chastise Obama’s efforts, but to inform you of what he seeks to accomplish and has failed to do.
