Why have teachers earned so much respect? To begin with, teachers have a high amount of tolerance for students. Students are constantly “forgetting” their homework, leaving trash and gum in classrooms, and talking in class. Our teachers could just give up and find another job because they don’t get paid a lot to teach anyway, but they persevere and show plenty of patience towards everyone. If teachers were all impatient and short-tempered, we would not be able to learn anything at all. And if you have no education, you will not get a job, and you won’t have a really promising future.
Additionally, our teachers help students on their own time with schoolwork. Even though they don’t get paid overtime, teachers are willing to give up their break, lunch, or time after school to help students who don’t get the lesson taught in class. Teachers have the right to just get up and leave as soon as they hear the bell, or lock the classroom doors during break or lunch, but they don’t. This shows how dedicated teachers are with their jobs and how much they enjoy teaching kids and helping others.
A final example is that teachers have LOTS of papers to grade and they certainly don’t have time to grade it during school hours. So, the only solution is to grade all the hundreds of papers from every single student they teach on their weekends. I don’t know about you, but I would prefer spending my weekends relaxing and not having to grade stacks and stacks of papers. Grading papers is boring. Who wants to waste their weekends reading every single answer on a worksheet or reading every single word in a mound of essays? I, for one, would most certainly succumb under all that work and give up. However, every single teacher in every single school deals with all that work and accomplishes what they set out to do. That is why teachers should be treated with more appreciation.
To summarize, no student should underestimate their mentors or their intentions. From your elementary school teachers to your college professors, every educator shares a common goal; to assist kids on their path through education. Teachers are very lenient towards students, and show LOTS of stoicism. They also give help and support to students about the lessons they teach, when they could be doing something else with their time. Lastly, our teachers part with their weekends to grade heaps of papers, so it is about time us students start acknowledging all that they have done for us.
