The automobile has made it easy, and convenient to travel from one city to another. Americans have access to inexpensive travel from one state to another. People can now venture out on the highway to go on vacation trips, work trips, visiting friends, relatives, new cities, and to go camping, People have a natural curiosity and with the invention of the automobile, we can satisfy that urge to discover new things.
However, cars also contaminant the air that we breathe in and, over time, our world will eventually have no clean air to breathe in and we will have to strive to find ways to breathe some clean air. Exhaust fumes from the engines of automobiles contain a number of polluting substances, including carbon monoxide and a variety of complex hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and other compounds. When acted upon by sunlight, these substances undergo a change in composition producing the brown, smog for which Los Angeles is well known. Efforts to reduce pollution from automobile engines and to develop pollution-free engines may eventually eliminate the more serious air pollution problems. In the meantime, however, air pollution has driven many forms of agriculture from the Los Angeles basin, has had a serious effect upon the pine forests in nearby mountains, and has caused respiratory distress, particularly in children, elderly people, and those suffering from respiratory diseases.
There are many ups and downs of effects of the automobiles; it affects the health in American society because people before the automobile used to do more exercise. The means of transportation were different and to move to another place was more difficult. As you can see, these are effects of the automobile on the American society, we need to think that the automobile is an excellent invention which changed the life style but absolutely, it was technological advance. So, in my opinion I think cars are more of a benefit to us.
