Everywhere you visit on the World Wide Web (www) includes commercials or advertisements. Companies including Sharpie, Starbucks, and many worldwide known companies advertise their products on the Internet. Small industries or locally-owned companies also put their name on these 800 Million users website. As a result, they get more business. When people see a 30-second commercial before a music video on Youtube, at times, it reminds people to get that product the next time they go to the store. When people see a political advertisement, it influences them. When people see a cool new product displaying on my laptop screen, they think, “I need that!! I want that right now!!” And, I know that many people in the world today act the same way when they see the newest product on the screen. As a result, companies get more business!!
Consumers get more information when seeing a commercial. For example, the Kony 2012 campaign’s goal is for all the users of Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Youtube, etc., to advertise Kony 2012 in order to get the name out there. The organization, named Invisible Children, got 112 Million views after a week, on their Youtube channel. Users on Facebook, including children, adults, celebrities, and political officials started to make fan pages, post links, and make events right when they heard about this campaign. The Kony campaign did a similar event, trying to gather as much people to donate or volunteer back in 2004, but failed. This year, they are using the many Internet sources to get the word out and get as many donations and volunteers. When viewing advertisements, people not only see the latest product, but they also learn from it. They learn that their future business leaders are them. And, to become a successful business leader, it all starts from now.
Is there too much commercialism on the Internet? I believe that commercials or advertisements on websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Youtube, etc. are something beneficial to companies advertising their latest product. You may think that it is annoying and what not, but at times, it is very beneficial to consumers! We learn from them. Many companies have found that their annual sales income has increased, after the superior amount of users on the Internet.
